What To Feed My Dog
The best food for your dog has all the important nutrients: water, protein, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins.
If you plan on leaving food out all day, use dry food that will not spoil.
If your dog has sensitive teeth or does not drink much water, try feeding them wet food, which is softer and has a higher water content than dry food.
Treats are also a great addition to food. Some treats help your dog's teeth, some have different nutrients than your dog's dinner. Dogs can consume 5-10% of their body weight in treats. It's best to use the treats for training as your dog will probably be more attentive, willing, and maybe even active.
How Much Food To Feed My Dog
The amount you feed your dog is larger dependent on the dog's age, weight, and activity level. For the most accurate amount, you should consult with your dog's vet.
It's best to follow the guidelines on the food packaging to determine how much your dog should eat. Puppies are generally active and bouncy and usually get more food than an older dog that lays on the couch all day. Be careful, though, you don't overfeed your puppy. Be sure you're not feeding them a lot often.
How Many Times A Day Should You Feed Your Dog?
Now that you have an idea of how much you should feed your dog, WHEN should you feed them?
You could be feeding your dog the recommended amount based on the packaging or your vet, but your little dog is still gaining too much weight! This could be because you're feeding them too often or you're leaving food out all day.
Puppies 6 months and younger should be fed 3-4 times a day. Adults should be fed 1-2 meals a day. Of course, the more active your pet, they more food they should consume. Senior dogs can be fed small meals more frequently. Again, consult your dog's vet for the most accurate feeding information.
You can leave food out all day for your pets that are highly active, pregnant and nursing, or ones that tend to eat in moderation.

Am I Feeding My Dog Enough
If your dog is at an ideal weight, you're feeding them enough.
If they're too thin, try giving them more food to get them to the ideal weight.
If your dog seems hungry during the day, assess their activity levels. If they're active, you can feed them a little more. If they're hungry but not active, make sure your dog is not using food as a means to get love and affection. If you give them attention and they're still hungry, try feeding them smaller amounts more often.
If you're still concerned with overfeeding your pet, consult your dog's vet.
